funny thing about friends — regardless of how stubborn you may be, they have a way of convincing you do something after weeks of nagging and harassing.
My friends think that I’ve abandoned this space, and are wishing for me to keep it active with some personal content.

So I will try to do my best, bear with me as the blog goes through some visual alterations.

Spice Safar

It’s no secret that I love the Spice Safar space. I spend a great deal of time each week in meetings and I love the quietness there compared to the hustle and bustle of Dark Horse. It can be described as a boutique patisserie. There’s the usual range of caffeinated beverages available during the day, alongside an evolving list of baked goods. The croissants are fantastic, particulary the pistachio stuffed variety. Recently, they launched an evening component..

The folks at Spice Safar are trying to create an experience around these morning rituals. When you order a croissant and coffee, if you stay in, you’re greeted with the ‘experience’ plate. Coffee, croissant in a basket, a shooter of soda and a nibble of the pastry chef’s latest creation. It’s a unique boutique approach and I’ve only seen it once before in New York. Recently, this week, they launched their evening cocktail and tapas menu. The ‘experience’ again being the #1 attraction.

I was there briefly last night to sample some of the cocktails (created in collaboration with master cocktailian Miguel Aranda of Apothéke). The cocktails are delicious, and once again, available in experience format as seen below.

Have you been to For The Love Of Cake in Liberty Village? Genevieve Griffin and her team have been praised for creating custom cakes for a variety of occasions. On Genevieve’s twitter feed, she lists the day’s special creations, infusing some crazy flavours like maple bacon, Guinness and pumpkin into cupcakes.

Genevieve has also started hosting a series of cupcake competitions titled Iron Cupcake Challenge. The idea has been very popular in cities like London, San Francisco, Chicago.

“What is Iron Cupcake?
Iron Cupcake is a cupcake challenge open to the public which has a similar concept to that of Iron Chef. A “secret ingredient” is announced and the competitors must somehow incorporate it into their cupcakes. Cupcakes will be made ahead of time and brought in a finished state to the competition. There will be points awarded on presentation, taste and creativity. Iron Cupcake was started in the US and is not only popular there but in Europe as well. We are the first to bring this exciting franchise to Canada! For more details on where Iron Cupcake got it’s start visit http://www.ironcupcakemilwaukee.com/

The latest Iron Cupcake challenge took place on May 16 th with the secret ingredient being Flowers. I had the privilege of being one of the judges at the event, and managed to get some photos while there.

Toronto has some serious baking talent!.

Liverpool Football Club Tour

I wish I paid more attention to my footballer friends, or followed the game closely ouside of the big cup tournaments. Because, earlier this week, I got a full tour of Anfield stadium in Liverpool while filming the Liverpool Football Club for Asigra. The topic was backup technologies, and we explored the venue, to find the proper backdrop to tell the story.

Here are some photos I snapped,
